Article Critique: “New insights into diabetes burnout and its distinction from diabetes distress and depressive symptoms: A qualitative study”
This article critique will review “New insights into diabetes burnout and its distinction from diabetes distress and depressive symptoms: A qualitative study” by Abdoli et al. (Abdoli et al., 2020). The aim of the study was to corroborate the main hypothesized dimensions of diabetes burnout, and its distinction from diabetes distress and depressive symptoms among adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) (Abdoli et al., 2020). The authors proposed that improved diabetes outcomes will depend on the availability of an accurate understanding of diabetes burnout.
Qualitative Method
The authors used the Descriptive Design qualitative method which is widely used to study unexplored health-related phenomena. The method provides a straight description of a phenomenon and its related factors. It is a flexible, exploratory approach to qualitative research. The authors conducted semi-structured, individual interviews of participants. The research question was: ‘‘What is diabetes burnout and how it is distinct from diabetes distress and depressive symptoms.”
Population
